Growers might not be fully aware, but changes are taking place with pesticide regulations. An important update on what’s coming and what is already here will be presented during the Florida Ag Expo on Nov. 7 at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma.
Brett Bultemeier of the UF/IFAS Pesticide Information Office will be presenting a talk titled “PULAs and Testing and BLT, Oh My: Understanding the Huge Changes to Pesticide Regulations.”
PULAs, or pesticide use limitation areas, are associated with new regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency related to the Endangered Species Act. BLT refers to Bulletins Live! Two. Growers will need to understand these new terms that will have direct impacts on farming in Florida and beyond. This is an essential update growers will not want to miss.
The Florida Ag Expo will provide additional informative talks on other timely topics during the educational seminars. In the afternoon, a field tour will provide attendees with an opportunity to see research projects underway in the field.
The tailgate-style trade show will be back again this year due to popular demand. The interactive format allows exhibitors to participate in the lunch break. Vendors will be providing a wide variety of foods and sweet treats from their booths. Last year, the exhibitor offerings ranged from barbecue and wings to Cajun, Asian and Latin cuisine, and much more. Ice cream and other dessert items were also available to top off the meal.
